Your Existence Gives Me Hope – Solo Exhibition by Sekar Puti Through June 13, 2019 at Uma Seminyak

Sekar Puti was born as Sekarputi Sidhiawati in Jakarta in 1986. A graduate of the Art and Design Faculty at the prestigious Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Puti worked for ten years in ceramics, establishing a ceramics studio in Bali in 2018.

Sekar Puti has exhibited her work widely, winning Soemardja Art Award (2010) and Bandung Contemporary Art Award (2013). Her work has been displayed at:

  • The Jakarta Contemporary Ceramic Biennale, Galeri Nasional Indonesia (2014)
  • Temperature Affect, Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik Jakarta (2017)
  • Manifesto, Galeri Nasional Indonesia (2017)
  • Termasuk, Darren Knight Gallery Australia (2018)
  • Southern Constellations : The Poetics of the Non-Aligned, Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljublana-Slovenia (2019)

“Your Existence Gives Me Hope” reflects  Puti’s acceptance of her many roles—as an artist, entrepreneur, wife, and also a mother. This, in particular, can be observed through her daily journal that shows her workmanship that is careful and diligent in its detail, similar to gardening that takes careful planning, hard work and patience.

The current exhibition that opened on May 25th will run through June 13, 2019, is being curated by Sally Texania.

Entry is free-of-charge
