The crash of MH17. Shot down by a Russian-made missile over Ukrainian airspace on Thursday, July 17, 2014, counted 6 people who made their homes in Bali among the manifest of 298 murdered crew and passengers.

Balidiscovery.com and Bali Update extends its condolences to the families and friends of all those who lost their lives in the downing of MH17.

People from Bali confirmed among dead are:

  • Yodricunda Theistiasih, her husband Arnoud Huizen and their infant daughter Yelena Clarice Huizen. Originally from Ambon, Yodricunda moved to Bali in the late 1990s and worked at a hotel in Bali. In Bali she met and married Dutchman Arnoud Huizen. The two were returning from Holland with their 2-year-old daughter after a 3-week visit during which they processed Dutch citizenship for the child. Arnoud Huizen taught language in Kuta to Indonesian school children. The young family made their home in Bali in the Denpasar suburb of Dalung.
