Kompas.com reports that Lion Air flight number JT013 from Denpasar (Bali) to Jakarta scheduled to depart at 9:50 am on Friday, April 19, 2013, was lined up for take off when a technical issue saw the plane’s pilot taxi the aircraft back to the boarding gate.

The Ngurah Rai Airport Duty Manager, Agus Adi Pratomo, told the press: “It (the plane – a Boeing 737-900NG) was poised for take off but suddenly stopped and a decision was made to return to the parking area at the apron.”

According to information received by Agus, once the airplane came to a stop and the plane’s door was opened many of the passengers ran from the aircraft. Said Agus: “There were many passengers who ran away, many who refused to re-board.”

No explanation was offered for the failure to take off per schedule. According to Kompas efforts to contact the airline for an explanation were unsuccessful.

The incident happened 6 days after a Lion Air flight from Bandung to Bali ditched into the Indian Ocean just meters short of the runway in Bali with 101 passengers and 7 crew on board. While no fatalities were recorded in that incident, a number of passengers required hospitalization to treat their injuries.
