(11/17/2013)

PT Buahan – owners of the Ubud Hanging Gardens have ended their affiliation with Orient Express are now managing and marketing the boutique riverside property in Bali independently.

The property will now be marketed as Hanging Gardens Ubud.

The owners have announced their intent to focus on giving guests a “bespoke” experience, proactively providing guests with individually crafted local experiences that draw on Bali’s culture and incorporate activities that involve the local community.

Orient-Express Objects

Meanwhile, Orient-Express Hotels Ltd, who managed the property have been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, claiming the repossession of the hotel by the owners on November 11, 2013 as “unlawful and constitutes a wrongful, and potentially criminal, repossession of the hotel and is a flagrant breach of its long-term lease arrangement, which continues to August 2038.”

While Orient-Express contemplates its next step in the dispute to “vigorously protect the interests of the Company, as well as its clients and staff,” it has removed the Ubud property from its marketing system until further notice

Hanging Gardens Ubud

Hanging Garden Ubud boasts 38 private suites and individual villas, each with its own granite infinity pool. The hotel, position on the banks of Ubud’s Ayung River overlooks rich jungle landscapes.

A funicular takes guests through the resort and gardens which were designed by landscape architect John Pettigrew and incorporate local flora and fauna such as cocoa and coffee trees which blend uniquely with bamboo, ornamental flame trees and orchids to create a tropical paradise.

The property will be managed by John Berndt who last hotel management position in Bai was with the Pan Pacific Nirwana Resort at Tanah Lot.

“By moving to independent management we can become more agile in response to guests’ ever evolving needs. We can invest in higher personalized touches that create value and loyalty for guests at the hotel and provide the ultimate luxury escape demanded by today’s travel elite,” said Berndt.,
