The far-north port of Celukan Bawang in Gerokgak, Buleleng, Bali is being sized up as a possible port for visiting cruise ships.
The port-of-call for Dutch ships visiting Bali in the 1930s, the Celukan Bawang port is seen as having several technical advantages over other cruise ports in Bali.
The head of Buleleng’s planning department, Gede Suyasa, has obtained reports from the Regent of the region, Putu Agug Suradnyana, who has heard from the Captains of major shipping lines expressing an interest in ships' visits at the port during a recent visit to London.
As reported by Bisnis Bali, the cruise ship captains praised Celukan Bawang for its sea conditions and pier location. The ship’s operators also liked the access to new tourism areas in Bali that stops at Celukan Bawang would permit.
