Four credit card fraudsters have been arrested in a credit card scheme with links to Bali.
The four, arrested in Jakarta, own four stores in Season City Mall, West Jakarta.
The criminals took advantage of foreign visitors enjoying a holiday in Bali, stealing their wallets of drunken tourist in order to misuse their credit cards.
As reported by Kompas.com, a police spokesman, Supriyono, described how the four would quickly duplicate the card codes using portable electronic data capturing (EDC) equipment registered to one of their Jakarta retail outlets.
Using the EDC the charges would be run through their Jakarta shop for fictive purchases Police say the group managed to illegally harvest between Rp. 5 – 40 millions each day.
Police were directed to the four Jakarta shops when a bank reported suspicious transactions undertaken at the stores.
Now under intensive investigation, police have closed and sealed off four Jakarta shops. The four will be charged under a section of the criminal code carrying a sentence, if convicted, of more than five years for each member of the gang.
