A wind spot resembling a small tornado touched down in Bali’s capital of Denpasar mid-day on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 causing significant damage to at least 80 homes and sending two people to hospital.
Dramatic YouTube footage provided a close of one of what may have been as many as three whirlwinds, know as putting beliung in Bali, that swept through the Denpasar sub-districts of Babjar Dukuh and Danjar Ambengan.
Roofing tiles became airborne and a number or trees were felled by the winds leveled several homes in the area and caused down power lines and blackouts.
The municipal government of Denpasar has promised to reimburse all damaged caused by the windstorm with steps underway to immediately provide new roofing tiles, repair materials and emergency household supplies.
The municipal secretary of Denpasar, A.A. Ngurah Rai Iswara told the press “all costs will be paid by the municipality.”
