A second Frenchman has been arrested by Bali police on narcotics violations in the space of just five days. Francois Giuly (48) was arrested at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport carrying 3 kilograms of methamphetamines, concealed in plastic bags within his checked luggage.
Giuly arrived on a Malaysian Airline flight on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from Kuala Lumpur on a flight itinerary that originated in Abu Dhabi.
Channel News Asia quoted the head of the Airport’s custom’s office as putting a value of US$511,000 on the drugs, a quantity sufficient to charge Guily with a capital crime punishable by death before a firing squad in Indonesia.
On the previous Wednesday, another Frenchman, Thierry Verchere, was apprehended at his residence in Bali with a large quantity of cocaine.
Rounding out the trio of Frenchmen in Bali news in connection with the narcotics trade was Micael Blanc (40) who was freed on parole on Monday, January 20, 2014, after spending the past 14 years in Bali’s Kerobokan prison for smuggling drugs into Bali.
Blanc will remain in Indonesian under police supervision until July 2017 when his probation ends.
