The municipal government of Bali's capital city of Denpasar is calling on the local supermarket chain Tiara Grosir to quickly obey a final ruling by the Indonesian Supreme Court and vacate its premises on Jalan Cokroaminoto.
The head of public relations and protocol for the Denpasar government, Ida Bagus Rahoela, has called on the management of Tiara Grosir to submit to the orders of Indonesia's highest court. What's more, Rahoela insists that the Court's decision means Tiara Grosir's occupation of the Jalan Cokroaminoto site has been unlawful since 2009.
The continued use of the building now that the Court has rule in the municipality's favor opens Tiara Grosir to further legal complications if they continue to occupy the site.
The decision of the Supreme Court allowing the Denpasar municipality to evict the supermarket ends a protracted legal battle between the grocer and the city.
The Cokroaminoto branch of Tiara Grosir employs 700 people in the market space leased from the municipality for the past 20 years. That lease ended in 2009 with a decision by the city government to resume the space for another use by the general public.
Employees working at the Tiara Grosir branch on Jalan Cokroaminoto told Bali Post that they have yet to be informed of the Supreme Court ruling by the market's management and are continuing to report to work each day per usual.
