Indonesia low-cost air carrier Lion Air has canceled its order for five Boeing 787 Dreamliners originally designated to be flown by the airline’s premium subsidiary Batik Air.
The order of the Dreamliners, much publicized by Lion Air at the time it signed contracts with Boeing Aircraft, was put at US$1 billion.
Lion has said it will now instead order Boeing 737 aircraft to augment its fast-growing domestic and regional routes.
The Dreamliners orders by Lion Air were “early production” models sold by Boeing at substantial discounts to Lion Air.
The early Boeing Dreamliner models have been plagued by numerous problems that have cost operators substantially in terms of modification and extended groundings.
