The State News Agency Antara reports that Bali's cross-Benoa Bay toll road will be closed to all traffic beginning from 10:00 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014 until Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 8:00 am.

The 34-hour closure of the road will take place in observance of Bali-Hindu New Year "Nyepi" celebrations and the 24-hour period of absolute silence that befalls the island from sunrise on Monday, March 31 until sunrise the following morning.

Akhmad Tito Karim, the CEO of PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol who operate the pay-for-use highway told the press, "Based on a circular memorandum from Bali's Governor, the permission of the Minister of Public Works and in within the framework of Nyepi Day celebrations - Bal Mandra Toll Road will be closed temporarily."

The toll road will close some 8 hours earlier than the official silence period that begins at 6:00 am on Monday and remained closed for 2 hours longer than the end of the mandated period of silence at sunrise on Tuesday. This is made necessary to permit toll workers to transit back and forth from their places of residence and permit the reactivation of computers and other equipment used in the road's normal operation.

"But we'll see, if the situation permits the toll road may be open an hour earlier at 7:00 am on Tuesday," Tito Karim added.

Tito Karim also said that in an emergency situation toleration to use the toll road may be given to emergency vehicles with access coordinated by staff on stand by at the road's entry points.
