The Denpasar Housing and Zoning Agency (DTRP) report that during the month of April 2014 a total of 72 structures lacking building permits (IMB) or standing in no-build green zones (jalur hijau) have received between one and three formal warning letters.
An official of the DTRP-Denpasar, Dewa Made Wesnawa Wedagama, said 95% of the those receiving warnings were for failure to obtain the required IMB with the remainder violating green zone areas, set backs from waterways and set backs from other buildings. Most of the violations were for private homes and residences.
Wedagama pleads that inadequate staff resources prevent his department from exercising effective control.
An earlier sweep conducted by the DTRP in March netted nearly 60 buildings in violation of the law and several building being erected in green zones were stopped and handed to the regencies enforcement unit (Satpol PP).
The Bali Post alleges that many building in Denpasar lack an IMB with government officials reluctant ot unable to take action because of the backing of high ranking officials for such projects.
