The Jakarta Post quoting data from the Bali Statistics Center (BPS-Bali) chief, Panusunan Siregar, says Bali starred-hotels achieved an average occupancy of 61.28% in April 2014, increasing from the average occupancy of 59.87 recorded in March.
Siregar contends that average occupancies of this level are sufficient to cover operating costs, including the wages of staff.
Siregar said there were 280,096 foreign visitors in April – a total at variance with the numbers provided by the Bali tourism office (274,838).
In any case, arrivals for the first four months of the year are ahead an approximate 15% from the same period in 2013.
The highest occupancy rate in April was recorded in Denpasar (65.42%), Badung regency (62.82%), Tabanan (59.54%), Gianyar (54%) and Buleleng (43.62%).
There are no starred hotels located in the regencies of Jembrana, Bangli and Klungkung.
BPS-Bali data counts 2,260 starred hotels in Bali with 56,971 rooms.
