Bali’s near neighbor - The Hai Tide Beach Resort on Lembongan Island is reviving the Indonesian tradition of “layar tancap” but with a modern and highly sophisticated twist certain to please holiday makers staying at the resort or neighboring hotels and villas.

In times past, Layar Tancap was the designation given to mobile film theatres that would set up in a villages' open areas to show feature films, often sponsored by a member of the community to celebrate a wedding, circumcision or other joyous event.

Layar Tancap at The Bali Hai Tide Beach Club is being promoted as “Movies Under the Stars” and will take place in the Resort’s palm garden where a custom-built 5-meter long screen will be erected and a cutting-edge high-definition projector and cinematic sound system will showcase Hollywood blockbusters and film classics three nights a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting each night at 8:30 pm.

The film schedule for the inaugural week of Movies Under the Stars:

  •  Monday, June 16, 2014: Life of Pi – directed by Ang Lee, this film won four Oscars and tells of magical story of a young Indian Boy lost at sea surviving the ordeal of life lost at sea in a lifeboat shared with a Bengal Tiger
  • Thursday, June 19, 2014: Four Weddings and a Funeral – directed by Mike Newell and starring Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell and James Fleet follows the life of a committed bachelor over five occasions who gradually becomes aware that love is, in fact, real and he’s discovered its mysteries.
  • Saturday, June 21, 2014: The Bourne Supremacy – directed by Pal Greengrass and starring Matt Damon, Franka Potente and Joan Allen is the story of a CIA operation gone wrong in which Jason Bourne is forced to come out of retirement as a trained assassin.
The movie equipment supporting Movies Under the Star has been imported from Australia and set up by one of Australia's most reputable light and sound technicians.

During each film presentation food and drink service will be available from the adjacent Hai Bar and Grill.

The premier night commences on Monday June 16th at 8.30 pm.

Bali Hai Managing Director, Dick Chandler welcomes the product innovation in facilities at the Company’s Nusa Lembongan Resort, promising each showing to be a breathtaking experience that will redefine evening entertainment on the Island located a short distance from Bali's southeastern shore.
