The State News Agency reports that Bali will play host to the Sixth Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) that has adopted as its theme "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Value.”
The Global Forum will take place August 29-30, 2014 in Bali.
An Indonesian Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Eny Andayani said: "Looking back at the previous events in Vienna, Austria, in 2012, Europe has pledged a plan of action to bridge the gap among various religions, cultures and other civilizations in order to promote harmony, and so we hope that Asia too will have the same.”
This is the first time that a Global Forum of the UNAOC will be held in Asia.
Added Eny: "It is an honor for Indonesia to host such an important conference for the civilizations where the world also recognizes our efforts to promote harmonization among our society through inter-religion and inter-media dialogues."
Continuing, she explained that Indonesia would use the conference to strengthen the understanding of pluralism and the national concept of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" or "unity in diversity.”
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has invited 114 members of the UNAOC’s Group of Friends that includes 11 state leaders to Bali, together with 25 international organizations and 100 members of international youth delegations.
State leaders are expected from the following countries: Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Qatar, Austria, Myanmar, China, India, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, and South Africa.
