The Hacienda Mexican Bar and Taqueria have scheduled a special event in honor of famed Mexican painter and feminist Frida Kahlode Rivera to take place on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Proceeds from the evening will be donated to Bali WISE – a women’s educational initiative that provides literacy, language, personal development and vocational training to economically disadvantaged women in Bali. Funds from the Frida Kahlo Evening will be specifically donated to special vocational fund to help local women achieve gainful employment.
Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) lived her entire life in Mexico and developed a unique style of painting known for its celebration of Mexican nationalism and indigenous traditions as well as its strong, bold depiction of the female experience. Emblematic of Mexican naïve or folk art, her work was once described by Andre Breton as “ribbon around a bomb.”
Characteristic of her fabled directness of statement, both in person and on canvas, Kalho once said: "I was born a bitch. I was born a painter."
An appropriate spirited role model for women anywhere seeking to improve their roles and position in society, this Mexican feminist hero will be celebrated at one of Bali’s best Mexican bars and restaurant in a night intended to improve the lot of impoverished women in Bali.
Rp. 200,000 (US$17) gains admission for the evening that includes:
