Indonesians across the archipelago will go to the polls on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, to directly elect the Nation’s next president and vice-president
The race is between the former general Prabowo Subianto and his running mate former cabinet minister Hatta Rajasa running against Jakarta governor Joko Widodo and former vice-president Jusuf Kalla.

Although the man who emerges victorious will be the 7th person to head the Republic since nationhood was declared in 1945, it will only be the third time that Indonesians have gone to the polls to directly elect the Indonesia’s next chief executive.
To facilitate the election process, Wednesday will be a national holiday across Indonesia.
