Governor Made Mangku Pastika has openly congratulated President-elect Joko Widodo and Vice-president elect Jusuf Kalla for their victory in the results of the presidential election announced on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

As reported by, the Governor’s congratulatory message was delivered in front of a gathering of civil servants from the province, including the heads of numerous official agencies .

Asked by reporters about his willingness to concede victory to Joko Widodo in the face of a continuing challenge to the electionbeing mounted by Prabowo Subianto, Pastika said on Thursday, July 24, 2014. “In an open way, I have already congratulated Jokowi who has been chosen as President.”

Pressed further and asked if he had also congratulated Jokowi by telephone. the Governor said he has yet to have the opportunity, despite several atytempts to do so.

“I can’t telephone (Jokowi), because he appears to be very busy. Nonetheless, I have publicly congratulated him for his victory,” said Pastika.

Pastika’s readiness to congratulate Jokowi despite the governor’s role as head of the election team for Probowo Subianto in Bali, is seen in many quarters as an expression of the Governor’s patriotism.

Pastika told the press that Bali now awaits the new President to fulfill the promises made during the campaign. Pastika said Jokowi has promised Rp. 1.1 or Rp.14 billion for every village in Bali.
