Bali's nearest neighboring country and the world's youngest country, Timor Leste (East Timor), has formally joined the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).
Following Timor Leste's participation in an observer status at the 52nd annual conference of PATA held in Bali in April, PATA's Vice President, Peter Semone visited Timor Leste's capital of Dili to meet with Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri and Secretary of State, Jose Teixeria and finalize the details of Timor Leste's induction into the organization as a Government Member.
Commenting on PATA's newest member, Peter Semone said, "Timor Leste has world-class beaches and scuba diving plus numerous land attractions. The destination needs investment, but it has a very bright tourism future ahead of it."
Dili, the capital of Timor Leste, is slightly over one hour's flying time east of Bali.
