(5/12/2003)

When Tom Nutley the Chairman of Reed Travel Exhibition visited Bali in April to attend the 52nd Annual Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Conference he hosted a luncheon with local travel professionals to discuss Bali's promotion at future international travel events managed by his group.

During that meeting, it became painfully apparent that the cumulative effects of the Iraqi war, negative travel advisories and the developing SARS epidemic made it almost certain that Bali would not be represented at EIBTM - a leading exhibition for the Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition Industry to be held in Geneva, Switzerland May 20-22, 2003.

Working together with the Bali MICE Initiative - the publishers of Bali's annual comprehensive guide to meetings and conferences, and Casa Grande - the association of star-rated hotels in Bali, a deal was struck with Reed Exhibitions that now ensures Bali will be highly visible at this year's EIBTM.

Working together and jointly representing Bali in Geneva will be two traditional competitors from two of the island's leading Destination Management Companies - Ida Bagus Lolec of Pacific World Nusantara and John Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours - standing shoulder to shoulder at a booth co-sponsored by the Bali MICE Initiative and Casa Grande.

Both Lolec and Daniels will be carrying their Bali MICE Initiative business cards at the event, dedicating their efforts to promoting the destination of Bali and the interests of all their Bali travel industry colleagues otherwise unable to participate at this year's event.

Commenting on Bali's presence at EIBTM, Brad Kirk, General Manager of the Bali Hyatt and an active member of both the Bali MICE Initiative and Casa Grande, said, "Bali is lucky to have two of its most energetic and talented promoters joining forces to keep the island's flag waving at this important international event. We fully expect that Bali's recovery will be assisted by Jack's and Lolec's presence at EIBTM."

Press Conference

At the EIBTM the two Bali representatives will also conduct a Bali press conference scheduled at Room Three - Villa Sarasin at the Palexpo Geneva for Tuesday, May 20th at 3 p.m. Both the press and member of the travel indystry are invited to attend the press conference to obtain an update on Bali tourism.

Those wishing to meet Lolec and John at EIBTM can also visit the Bali Booth in the exhibition hall or make an on line meeting appointment via the EIBTM website.
