I Gusti Agung Prana, a distinguished owner of a travel agency and a Bali hotel, was elected Chairman of the Bali branch of the Association of Indonesian Travel Agents (ASITA) for the period 2003 - 2007.
Replacing outgoing Chairman, I Gusti Bagus Yudhara, the new Chairman has worked 30 years in tourism and been recognized internationally for his work in coral conservation and environmental preservation. He was recently nominated for the prestigious Sasakawa Environment Prize presented by the United Nations Environment Program for contributions in the management and protection of the environment.
Prana is founder of the Karang Lestari Reef Restoration Foundation in Pemuteran Northwest Bali. He played an integral role in creating the now-famous community marine patrol to end destructive fishing practices, the first of its kind in Indonesia. Such community-based marine restoration and protection projects have won national and international awards, including the Best 2002 Marine Coastal Program in Indonesia from the Indonesian government and Best 2002 Underwater Eco-tourism Project in the world from SKAL International, the world's largest professional tourism organization.
