Yos WK Amertha, a leading Bali water sports operator and the Chairman of the Bali branch of the Association of Water Sports Operators (Gahawisri), has called on the Government and private sector to unite in publicizing that Bali remains a SARS-Free Island.
Complaining that the current official response to the downturn in passengers related to the SARS scare has been weak and ineffective, Yos citing the low arrival numbers being recorded at Bali's gateway as proof of the lack of efficacy of current measures to recover from the crisis.
He called on the Government to give its personal guarantee that Bali remains SARS free, proclaiming to the world media that Bali has yet to record a single case of the disease at local hospitals. Similarly, he asked authorities to make sure that qualified personnel and equipment to screen for SARS are in place at every air and sea port of Bali and to publicize this fact to the world in order to rebuild confidence in travel to the island.
The water sport tourism leader said that international confidence in Bali's safety must be restored and that ongoing efforts in this regard were inconsequential, amounting to little more than trips abroad by official delegations.
