A grant of A$ 4.5 million (approximately US$ 2.97 million) has been allocated by the Australian government to cover the cost of constructing a modern Intensive Care Center at Bali's Sanglah General Hospital (RSUP).
The two-storey unit will cost an estimated A$ 3.6 million, with construction beginning in June and expected to be completed early in 2004. Discussions are continuing on how to use the remaining A$ 900,000 of grant money in completing the new facility.
According to local press reports, the new facility will include an Intensive Care Unit, an Intensive Cardiac Care Unit, a Burns Unit and a refurbished Morgue.
The new medical facilities provided by the Australian government were proposed and approved following the tragic terrorist bombing of a Bali night spot on October 12, 2002, which claimed over 200 lives.
