On Friday, May 30, 2003, a group of 20 or so friends from Bali's tourism sector gathered together for an informal dinner at the Sanur's Pala Restaurant to begin the painful process of fare welling an Australian family who have made Bali their home for the past 13 years.
Peter Duncan, the General Manager of the Bali Hai Cruises fleet of day cruise vessels, island bungalows, and idyllic beach retreat at Nusa Lembongan – has reluctantly decided to bid his adopted home of 13 years farewell and accept the lead position with a cruise and water sports operation in Fiji.
While Peter and his wife, Tracey, together with their two children, Hannah (6) and Campbell (8), have nearly a month to collect together their accumulated belongings, the most difficult part of saying good-bye to friends, business associates, Bali Hai staffers and adopted family members still lays ahead.
At the informal dinner hosted at PALA, numerous toasts of friendship were offered, including heartfelt comments from Jan Mantjika of Jan's Tours, Nick Blackbeard of Sobek, and Jack Daniels of Bali Discovery Tours.
As a special remembrance of the evening the talented, I.B. Lolec, Managing Director of Pacific World Nusantara executed a painting during the dinner depicting Peter and Tracey surrounded by their friends and dinner companions sailing aboard a Bali Hai vessel.
