A meeting was held in late May between Indonesia's Minister for Culture and Tourism, Mr. I Gede Ardika and Mr. Peter Keating, representing the World Tourism Organization, to review ongoing technical assistance being provided to Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Expressing satisfaction at steps undertaken to improve security, Mr. Keating identified additional measures needed in the area of finalizing fixed operating procedures for security operations, staff training, and the need for greater security consciousness at all levels of airport operations.
The WTO is striving for the introduction of uniformed standards or security operations among all international airports as a means of maintaining public belief in the demonstrated safety of international travel.
Both the Minister and Mr. Keating aspire for Bali's airport to become a model of safety and security on an international level.
