On Thursday, June 12, 2003, the Government of Japan's travel warning for Bali was downgraded from a 'Level 2' to a 'Level 1' status.
A 'Level 1' travel warning is the lowest caution level issued by the Japanese Government and advises their citizens to exercise caution in traveling to Bali.
Japanese direct tourist arrivals to Bali for the first three months of 2003 stood at 41,984 visitors, down 28.59% from the same period in 2002.
The downgrading of the Japanese travel advisory, indicating a more positive situation for visitors from that country to Bali, will hopefully result in increased tourist flows from Japan. Japan is traditionally Bali's top producer for tourist visitors.
