Following a series of negotiations between owners and employees, 105 staff of one of Bali's largest inbound agents specializing in the Japanese market Paradise Bali Tours (P.T. Paradise Bali Indah) have had their working contracts terminated.
According to a report in the Indonesian-language Bali Post, the massive downturn in Japanese tourists handled by the company from an average 5,000-6,000 each month to current levels of less than 200 necessitated the layoffs.
Under the terms of the termination package the Company's staff received severance packages of between Rp. 8 – 133 million (approximately US$ 975 – US$ 16,220).
The owners of the Company have publicly stated their hope that conditions will eventually improve, allowing the re-employment of the terminated staff members.
Bali Paradise Tours - one of Bali's leading inbound operators, was established in 1989.
