(8/4/2003)
Each year the prestigious U.S.A.-based Travel & Leisure Magazine polls its readers to select "world's best" in the opinion of their sophisticated and well-traveled readers. This year, for the 8th year in a row, the magazine's readers voted for their favorite hotels, cities, islands, tour operators, airlines, cruise lines and rental car companies with the results published simultaneously on their website and in the July 29, 2003 edition of their magazine.
Bali: The World's Best Island
Despite a difficult year by any standard, Bali was named the world's best island by T + L. The second year in a row Bali has garnered this honor, readers selected the island for "its people and for value," seemingly undeterred by last year's tragic terrorist bombing and U.S. travel warnings.
T + L's List of The World's Best Islands
In the subcategory of the "Best Asian Islands," Bali maintains its supremacy, followed by Phuket and Penang.
The Best Hotels
T+L also named the world's best hotels, a category in which Bali secured 3 properties in the list of the world's top 100. While the Peninsula in Bangkok was named the world's best property, the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay was voted #5; the Ritz Carlton Bali Resort and Spa was #13; and the Amandari Resort in Ubud tied down the #79 ranking.
T + L's Listing of the Worlds Best 100 Hotels
In the sub category of Asia's Top 25 Hotels the three Bali Hotels were ranked #4, #7 and #16, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the special sub-category of the world's best hotels under $250, the Ritz Carlton Bali Resort and Spa was named #2 in the world.
Getting Here is Also Fun
Bali was also pleased to note that of the 8 international air carriers named the world's best by T + L, 5 of the top airlines fly to our island, namely:
• Singapore Airlines (#1)
• Cathay Pacific Airways (#2)
• Thai Airways International (#3)
• Japan Airlines (#5)
• Qantas Airways (#6).
All in all, very gratifying results for the island of Bali in the T + L proving that Bali's magic is indeed indestructible.
