(9/6/2003)
June arrival figures of 85.700 through Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport show the island's steep, albeit incomplete, recovery from the SARS panic and the Iraqi war.
June 2003 arrivals were down 34.36% month-to-month with 2002, a narrowing gap after May which lagged 59.88% and April which was down 43.88%.
First Six Months
The January-June arrivals for 2003 totaled 456,419 – down 38.41% from the 741,097 recorded in 2002.
Shorter Length of Stays
While detailed data is not yet available, the length of stay for Bali visitors is reportedly currently less than 4 days, reflecting the lethargic recovery of the long haul U.S. and European markets with their tradition of extended visits, while regional markets tending to stay for much shorter periods are rcovering sharply.
