On Saturday, August 2, 2003, Paddy's Bar - the popular Kuta night spot destroyed by the terrorist attack of last October 12th reopened it doors to the public. The bar has been rechristened Paddy's Reloaded - representing the owner's, Mr. Gede Wiratha, defiant refusal to give in to the forces of terror.
Located on the same road just north of the original location, the new Paddy's Bar is larger than its predecessor, able to accommodate 600 customers. Not surprising, the new night spot also forbids parking in front of the bar and has trained security guards equipped with metal detectors patrolling the premises.
Employees of the original Paddy's who survived the October attack are back working at the bar, some still wearing the aftereffects of burns suffered in the form of pressure bandages on their limbs. Regular customers of Paddy's, including those who were in attendance and survived that fatefull night, are also showing up at the bar.
A gala grand opening of the bar is planned on October 12th, the anniversary of the terrorist attack.
