Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, I Gede Ardika, has stated that a coordinating meeting among selected members of the Cabinet following the terror attack on the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Jakarta has decided not to extend any special stimulus measures to the tourism sector.
Moreover, the Minister indicated that the already reduced tourism target of between 4.5 to 4.8 million foreign visitors for 2003 contributing an estimated US$ 4.8 - 5.0 billion in foreign exchange will remain unchanged.
Current Programs Under Review
The Minister revealed that current recovery programs in cooperation with the Nation's hotels, travel agents, tourist attractions and airlines will continue but must now be reviewed and undergo temporary adjustment to respond to the impact of the Jakarta bombing.
