Following the bomb attack of August 5th in Jakarta, Bali's Police Chief Irjen. Made Mangku Pastika has outlined a number of special steps being undertaken by the police to prevent any terrorist incidents in Bali.
While Bali, like the Capital Jakarta, has been under a state of Alert I (Siaga I) since the convening of the yearly parliament session in Jakarta in early August, the entire island remains in a state of stand by with police troops and officers at their posts available for instant deployment.
Speaking to the local press, Chief Pastika confirmed that additional staff and screening equipment have been put in place at both the Gilimanuk and Padang Bai sea ports, as well as the island's airport.
The Chief also said that police are reviewing the identity papers of non-residents of the island as well as checking the occupants of local boarding houses.
Pastika underlined the need to continue to develop the personnel and skills of Bali's police force and the function of community organizations and the local pacalang community security forces in facing the challenges posed by international terrorism.
