Over 750 cancer experts from around the world will attend the 17th Annual Asia-Pacific Cancer Conference (APCC) in Bali October 8-11, 2003.
The theme for this year's conference, to be held at the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel in South Kuta, is "Improving Basic Oncology and Its Clinical Applications for Better Cancer Control in the Asia-Pacific Region." High on the cancer experts' list of topics to be discussed are means by which they can enhance their professionalism in the growing world-wide epidemic of cancer.
Cancer ranks as the six greatest cause of death in the world today, with the death toll increasing each year due in part to the pollution of the earth's environment.
Speaking at a press conference held in Jakarta on September 23, 2003, Evert Poetiray, the President of APCC stated his pleasure at the strong turnout of cancer experts registered for the Bali conference, despite the recent bombing of the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta and the fears of SARS. In addition to members of APCC from the region some 120 cancer experts and researchers are expected from Japan, the U.S.A., Canada, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Australia.
