Deutche Presse Agentur (DPA) have quoted Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, I Gde Ardika, as acknowledging that total foreign tourist arrivals would end 10 to 12 percent short of the downwardly revised projection of 4.8 million tourist for 2003.
Quoting the Minister, the article said: "The government's set target will not be achieved because until October of this year only about 3 million foreign tourists visited the country."
Indonesia has suffered diminished tourism arrivals over the past year following a terror attack on Bali in October 2002 which precipitated a number of travel advisories by foreign government discouraging travel to the Country.
The latest reduced projections will see Indonesia earn only some US$ 4.3 billion in foreign exchange from an estimated 4.3 million tourist arrivals.
