Whether your Scottish or not, an event not to be missed is the celebration or Robert Burns 258th Birthday to be held in Sanur, Bali on Saturday, January 20, 2018.
While technically “Rabbie Burns Day” falls January 25th - on the presumed day of his birth, the Bali celebration of Scotland’s most revered poet will still follow protocols and traditions first established at Burn’s cottage on July 21, 1801 – the fifth anniversary of his death.
The limited seating Burn’s celebration in Bali will be held in a tented garden setting with the lads and lasses expected to be wearing kilts, tartans, formal dress, black ties or, as an accommodation to the tropical climate, “red sea rig.”
Bagpipers will be on hand to pipe a welcome and the de rigueur “piping of the Haggis” for a course of food  - the deceptively delicious opening course that is a concoction of sheep’s offal, onions, oatmeal, suet, and spices  - all encased and cooked in a sheep’s stomach.  Ignore the recipe and tuck into a dish with a taste held in high regard by almost the entire Scottish Nation.
Where else but at a night dedicated to Burns is a prayer dedicated to a food course – “Selkirk Grace” recited before the cutting of the haggis?
The multi-course dinner will also offer other specialties such as cock-a-leekie, tatties, neeps and delicious meats served with copious quantities of premium Australian wine, beer, and rare single-malt Scotch whisky.
Robby Burn’s nights are, in their essence, a never-ending wake for a much-loved dead man of letters celebrated with copious quantities of alcohol, Scottish food, dance, music, song, poetry, speech making and, lest we digress, more alcohol.
As in years past, the jokes shared will be side-aching and the speeches memorable, at least for those with still-functioning memories the following day.
Seating is strictly limited and early bird prices are available through November 30, 2017, at Rp. 1.25 million per person, increasing to Rp. 1.4 million thereafter on a first-come basis.
The price includes all food, entertainments, Australian wines, open bar and a bottle of Speyside 12-year-old Single Malt on each table.
Proceeds from the evening will go the Puspadi Foundation that provides wheelchairs, prosthetics and rehabilitation to disabled members of the community.
There will also be a charity auction and lucky draw prizes.
