Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika said the worldwide trend to embrace Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) share strong similarities with the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana.

Tri Hita Karana aims to promote public welfare and contentment by maintaining a delicate balance between man and nature, man and the Almighty, and man with his fellow man.

Speaking with an audience composed of organizers of the Tri Hita Karana Awards 2017 on Monday, November 6, 2017, Pastika said, “For something to be sustainable, it embrace the spirit of Tri Hita Karana.” The Governor said sustainability could only be achieved when there is harmony with God, harmony among mankind, and harmony with nature.

As reported by, Made Mangku Pastika said that Bali must share its philosophy of Tri Hita Karana with the world by advancing the philosophy through the Island’s tourism industry and programs such as the Tri Hita Karana awards program.

The Governor believes the world community is very open to the concept of Tri Hita Karana given the philosophy’s natural embrace of sustainable development.

The Tri Hita Karana Awards given to Bali’s leading business will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2017. This year’s ceremony will recognize 155 companies. According to the chairman of the Tri Hita Karana Foundation, I Gusti Ngurah Wisnu Wardana, the 2017 Awards will also embrace the principle of global ethics of tourism promoted by the Indonesian Minister of Tourism and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Representing the Assessor Team for the THK 2017 Awards, Gede Suarsa, promised that this years awards would be a vast improvement over previous year’s reflecting the active corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs underway among many hotels and businesses in Bali.
