A Grab Taxi Driver, Doni Asnan (45), was placed in the custody by Bali police on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, charged with stealing a wristwatch valued at Rp. 60 million and a sum of cash owned by one his passengers Irawati Ahmad (27).
As reported by, a spokesman for the Kuta Police Precinct said that Doni Asnan received an online order to pick up a passenger at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 9:00 pm. The online order was to bring Irawati from the Airport to the Hotel Harris in Seminyak.
During the ensuing taxi ride, the female passenger told the Grab taxi driver to stop at Warung Made in Seminyak so she could enjoy a quick dinner before checking into her hotel. The woman left her baggage in the car, allegedly allowing the driver to ransack her hand luggage and remove a sum of cash and the expensive Cartier wristwatch.
Later, when Irawati Ahmad checked into her hotel room, she noticed the missing cash and watch, immediately reporting the theft to the Police in Kuta.
Police were able to trace the driver, arresting him while he was driving in Kuta the following day.
When arrested, police found a Cartier watch, two Thai currency bills with a denomination of Baht 1,000 each.
