The chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association in Bali (PHRI-Bali), Cokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati (“Cok Ace”), rues a decision to increase the passenger service charge (PSC) for departing international passengers from Rp. 200,000 to Rp. 225,000 effective January 1, 2018.
The Rp. 25,000 increase in the PSC is equal to about US$1.90.
As reported by the State News Agency Antara, Cok Ace said the decision to increase the PSC was ill-timed in the midst of efforts to regain its footing after a dramatic decrease in arrivals following the 2.5-day closure of Bali’s Airport in late November 2017. Adding: “The timing is not good when all components (of the tourism industry) are working shoulder to shoulder to create an image that Bali is safe to visits. Meanwhile, Angkasa Pura (airport authority) increases the cost of the PSC.”
To demonstrate the tourism industry’s opposition to the PSC price increase, the headquarters of PHRI in Jakarta has sent a letter to the Minister of Transportation on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, requesting a postponement in the increase until passenger arrival figures to Bali return to normal levels.
The cost of the PSC is contained inside the ticket price and is not collected at time of check-in for an international flight.
