Iwan Limau, a passenger flying on Citilink QC 165 was seen nonchalantly walking across the tarmac and boarding the aircraft’s stairs while smoking a cigarette.

When passengers and flight crew complained that Limau’s actions were against aviation safety rules, especially as the man smoked close to the ongoing refueling process, he was approached by security personnel who asked him to immediately disembark the flight.

As reported by, Limau became indignant at the request, caused a scene that went viral via social media, and was eventually escorted off the plane by security personnel.

The corporate communications manager for Citilink, Benny Butar Butar, confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, February 25, 2018 on a Bali-bound plane scheduled to leave at 9:35 pm.

Observers say Iwan smoked from the moment he left the terminal until he was on the boarding stairs for the aircraft.

Of great concern was that Ivan continued to smoke while passing within meters of the refueling process.

While Iwan apparently extinguished his cigarette at the plane’s door, he was approached by security staff after taking his seat and asked to disembark the aircraft. Caught on video and posted on Facebook was a spirited verbal altercation between Limau and the security guards as the passenger declared he had no intention of disembarking the plane.

According to Citilink officials, Iwan Limau’s disregard for the rules and his recalcitrant behavior in front of security personnel firmed the collective resolve of the Airline that the man would not be allowed to fly.

A short time later, the 101 passengers departed Jakarta for Bali, leaving Iwan Limau perhaps "smoking mad" at the departure gate.
