Antara News Agency reports that the Indonesian government may be considering abolishing the Rp. 1 million (approximately US$ 118) fiscal tax for Indonesian nationals and foreign residents traveling to neighboring members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The fact that the tax was under review was revealed by Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. I Gede Ardika at a ceremony launching the ASEAN Hip Hop Pass program which provides discounted air and hotel prices for people traveling between ASEAN countries.
Indonesia has been routinely criticized by other member nations of the ASEAN for imposing the departure tax which is seen to discourage travel within the region.
