Remembering Annika Linden

Two Tourism Students Receive Scholarships from the Bali Hotel Association in Remembrance of a Bali Bombing Victim.

Bali News: Remembering Annika Linden

(4/21/2004)

Bali Hotel Association (BHA), formerly known as Casa Grande Bali, has recently honored the memory Ms. Annika Linden by bestowing two scholarships in her name on two students at the Bali Hotel and Tourism Training Institute.

Ni Made "Janu" Ari Ningsih, 20, is a fourth semester honors student in Hotel Accounting Management from Buleleng Regency. Ms. Janu is the first accounting student from her college ever nominated for a scholarship.

The other recipient, I Komang "Wawan" Agus Setiawan, 21, is a student in the Rooms Division Management Section of the Institute.

As part of an outreach program to local tourism students as many as 12 students are selected annually for scholarship support from the BHA. Students must meet strict criteria after each semester review for eligibility to continue the scholarship. Once selected, students are also teamed with a professional mentor, who is a member of the BHA, who provides scholastic and professional counseling to the aspiring hoteliers. Acting as mentors for Janu and Wawan are Conrad Bali Resort's General Manager and BHA Education & Training Committee Chairman Mr. Michael Burchett, and Amanusa Resort's General Manager, Guy Heywood.

Ms. Linden, a 29 year-old English woman, was among the 202 victims of the October 12, 2002, Bali bombing. Her fiancée, 37 year-old Mark Weingard, has set up a foundation in her name which has already awarded over US$ 150,000 in support of charitable projects in Bali. The BHA award is separate from the charitable work performed by the foundation headed by Mr. Weingard.
