The Bali operator of adventure tours Sobek have appointed New Zealander, Gary Easthope to assume the helm of the company offering rafting, trekking, biking and ornithological tours in Bali.

Easthope replaces the popular Steve McMillan who held the position for the past five years and who is returning to his native Australia.

Commenting on his tenure at Sobek, McMillan said, "I am very pleased to be handing over the role to Gary with a new management structure including many fresh faces and a wealth of experience being cemented over the past quarter. This forms the nucleus of the new Sobek. We are all very optimistic about the company being well placed looking forward to take advantage of opportunities related to both MICE and FIT markets." McMillan added, "the team at Sobek have weathered the storm well, and it makes me proud to say that my time at Sobek and living on this magical island of Bali with my family have been 5 of the best years of my life."

Gary Easthope comes to Sobek and Bali with a strong background in adventure pursuits, experiential learning and outdoor education. While living on Bali, Gary also hopes to indulge his hobbies of scuba diving and sailing.

Commenting on his new position, Easthope said, "We are looking at strengthening our strategic alliances in the tourism industry and work closely with Bali's various tourism partners. We will certainly continue our joint sales and management partnership with Bali Bird Park. This is a great product to be packaging particularly for the family market. The ongoing improvements to the Bali Bird Park make it a very good match for us to cross promote and sell.
