Chess enthusiasts at all level of skill are encouraged to participate in the First Sanur Open Chess Tournament, December 1 – 15, 2004.

Organizers of the event are hoping that players ranging from beginners to Grand Masters will register to participate in the event in which cash prizes will be awarded in both Senior and Junior divisions.

Registration is open to all and costs only Rp. 25,000 (approximately US$2.75) for Seniors and Rp. 15,000 (approximately US$1.65) for Juniors. A prize purse of Rp. 5.975,000 (approximately US$664) will be divided among the top 20 ranking Senior players and Rp. 1,750,000 (approximately US$195) among the to 10 ranking Junior players.

The tournament is being held to mark the inauguration of the Pion Mas Sanur Chess Club which intends to hold regular seminars and workshops to promote chess play taught by national chess coaches as well as National Grand Masters.
