Indonesia's national carrier, Garuda Indonesia has been recognized by Travel Weekly East magazine for innovation within the category of international airlines.
In presenting the award, Garuda's perseverance in confronting change in a turn around situation, for overcoming obstacles and maintaining service were lauded. The award, which was presented in a special ceremony on Friday, July 20, at Singapore's Fullerton Hotel was accepted on behalf of the Airline by its Finance Director, Mr. Emirsyah Satar. In accepting the award, Mr. Satar said, "Garuda, emerging from a situation in which it faced numerous financial difficulties and low service levels, has managed to book a profit and record a number of service improvements." He went on to say that the award represented international acknowledgement of Garuda's efforts and hard work to escape the financial crisis that has afflicted the Airline since 1993.
Garuda has also recently won an award from Amsterdam's Schipol Airport for its outstanding on-time performance and customer satisfaction levels achieved on its Dutch services.
