Local press reports indicate that Bali's hilltop campsite of computer technology specialists- BaliCamp is on the lookout to hire an additional 150 IT workers.
BaliCamp is an idyllic hill district brain trust of young computer experts creating software products for a world-wide customer base of computer giants. Sales this year are expected to exceed US$ 4 million. Located at Pacung, near Bali's resort area of Bedugul, BaliCamp resides in a setting more resembling a fine resort hotel than the internationally respected software center that it has quickly become. The BaliCamp campus boasts a wide range of facilities including outside amphitheatres, a restaurant, conference rooms and a swimming pool. Despite these distractions, some of the Country's brightest computer wiz's are hard at work creating computerized solutions to corporate problems. A case in point, the programmers at BaliCamp recently completed work on the first Indonesian language spell-check under a contract with Microsoft.
In order to secure the additional IT workers they need, BaliCamp has entered into a recruitment agreement with a Jakarta-based supplier of skilled workers to the computer industry PT Work IT Out, According to the recruitment company spokesman, the programmer sought for the Bali IT center must have skills in the use of Java and C++ languages.
Initial efforts to secure qualified programmers from national universities has met with some success with a reported 30 new programmers expected to start work in Bali in the near future.
