Sometimes you almost think you're holidaying in Cannes or Nice during the annual film festival.
Bali has long been a favorite hide-away for celebrities seeking some rest and recreation away from the glitter of tinsel town. In fact, Charlie Chaplin and Noel Coward started the trend with prolonged visits to the arts community of Ubud in the 1930's. Later, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby teamed up to make the film "Road to Bali" with Dorothy Lamour, shot entirely in Hollywood and, sadly, bearing more resemblence to the mental meanderings of a Hollywood production designer in full flight than with anything recognizable as "Balinese". Mick Jagger, Steven Seagal, Francis Ford Cuppola, George Lucas and Barbara Streisand are just a few of the glitterati who've graced Bali with their presence in recent times.
Currently in Bali and enjoying our wonderful August weather is Nicolas Cage, with Jean-Claude Van Damme expected for a visit soon. Aspiring autograph seekers can save their e-mails, we're sworn to secrecy when it comes to revealing these actors' choice of accommodation while in Bali.
When it comes to films starts Bali may not be Cannes or Nice - it's better.
