Bali airport authorities report that work on a new and relocated entrance gateway is now 80% completed with workmen now adding the artistic and finishing touches to the Balinese-style portal.
When operational, the new gateway will connect to a brand new access road which will be located north of the present road running along the airport's north perimeter security fence. The decision to move the road to a distance further removed from the security fence and nearby parked aircraft was based on security concerns.
According to the Airport's Managers, the new road way is nearly 60% completed with final construction of the last 1.2 kilometers of roadway waiting for the removal and relocation of several buildings – including the airport's immigration office – which will be intersected by the new road.
Next Phase: Enlarged Terminal
Once the new road is inaugurated the next phase of airport renovation will be the building of a new domestic air terminal on the south side of the airport's parking area. When completed, the expanded terminal facilities will allow Bali's airport to handle 25,000 passengers each day, up 150% from its present limit of 10,000 passengers.
