Born in the Balinese farming community of Lalang Linggah in Tabanan in 1971, I Made Sumadiyasa virtually burst onto the international contemporary art scene in 1998 via a solo exhibition Journey at Ubud's Neka Museum.Without darkness, there is no lightSunrise
Bold, expressive paintings that consumed entire walls of a gallery or museum saw the young Balinese artist praised and his work compared to the early paintings of the world's leading Abstract Expressionists.
The sole subject of two coffee-top editions cataloguing his work and a finalist for two years (1996 & 1997) in the Philip Morris Awards, I Made Sumadiyasa has exhibited in Bali, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Italy and Tokyo.
His latest exhibition at Ganesha Gallery at Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay Madé pays homage to the rising sun, acknowledging the all-persuasive influence of our brightest star on our daily lives and spiritual awakening.
Balinese religion, culture and society are based on the principle that the Gods and humanity share a responsibility for maintaining the balance between opposing forces. Made work explores that delicate balance:
