On Friday, August 10, Japan Air Lines (JAL) "Dream Express 21" touched down at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport at 1725 hours with Mickey, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck - all on board.
A very special exterior paint job and interior decoration celebrating JAL's 50th Anniversary and Walt Disney's 100th birthday have been applied to the exterior of a Boeing 747 aircraft. Dubbed the "JAL Dream Express 21", the effect of decorating the entire fuselage of a Jumbo Jet with well-known Disney cartoon characters brings airports to a momentary pause whenever it lands on an airport for the first time. A total of 6 jets have received the colorful livery, with 5 operating on domestic Japanese routes and the remaining jet on journeys in the Asia region.
A promotional collaboration between JAL and Japan and Oriental Land Company, the owners and operators of the Tokyo Disney Resort, the special jets are being used to celebrate the combined anniversaries of the two companies and announce a new visitor attraction at the Tokyo Disney Resort, scheduled to open on September 01. The "Dream Express 21" jets will fly until December 31, 2001, after which they will revert back to the standard JAL paint job.
