Representative of the new found faith in Indonesia's future, Bali's reputation as a secure tourism destination, and the strong appeal of the island's cultural heritage - the Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition market (MICE) destined for Bali is going strong and promising an even stronger performance for the years ahead. For obvious reasons, the island's MICE market is centered at the Nusa Dua Complex, home to approximately 4,500 top end hotel rooms and the state-of-the-art Bali International Conference Center. That Center boasts 5,000 square meters of exhibition space and a main hall that can seat 2,500 or 1,500 for banquets, backed up by 8 additional function rooms and a formal auditorium with fixed seating for 506.
A recent check of just some of the MICE business on the books at the BICC through the end of the year underlines the growing popularity of the venue:
22-28 August 2001- Shock & Care 2001 (600 participants)
11-16 September 2001 - 9th Asian Battery Conference (400 participants)
18-22 September 2001 TELKOMSEL Conference (200 participants)
21 October - 02 November - 35th Bermuda Cup/World Bridge Championships (500 participants)
06-11 November - ASEAN Federation Endocrine Societies (600 participants).
Further evidence of a renewed commitment to the MICE market in Bali is the Bali MICE Initiative. In September the Initiative will publish a 100 page Bali MICE Guide sponsored by over 42 hotels, Professional Conference Organizers, Destination Management Companies, Airlines, Attractions, and suppliers to the MICE market. Designed to be a comprehensive guide for professional meeting planners chock-full of useful information on the island's culture, MICE facilities, tour options, suggested gala evenings, and wide range of recreational facilities - the Bali MICE Guide will have a guaranteed print run of 12,000 copies and be couriered upon publication to top conference and meeting organizers world-wide.
The Bali MICE Initiative and the Bali MICE Guide are coordinated by Bali Discovery Tours in affiliation with Pacific Asia Travel News.
Commenting on the Bali MICE Initiative, Mr. Arie Sukirno, Managing Director of Bali Discovery Tours said, "The Government called on private industry to take the initiative and we did. We are extremely pleased with the overwhelming response of the Bali's tourism community to our suggestion to join forces to promote Bali as a MICE destination." He added, "That response, in fact, has been so strong that we've had to 'grow' the Guide in both total number of pages and total print run to accommodate the strong demand for promotional space."
In addition to distributing the publication via direct mailings to conference organizers, the Bali MICE Guide will also be carried to major MICE and professional tourism events scheduled over the coming year.
